ION is new type of dance music. It combines sophisticated melodies with meaningful lyrics. It breaks and bends the limitations of ordinary pop music. It has basically taken the best of both worlds. You can listen to or dance to I O N. It's music for the body and soul.
A HISTORY LESSON
The band I O N consist of two musical wizards, a Finnish-born Velho and Swedish-born Marco, who runs Studio 214 in Gothenburg, Sweden. They started the band in 1999 as a studio project. Marco presented his idea for a song, which eventually became "Do what you love". From there on they've been writing and recording songs in an exhilarating tempo.
POPWIRE
In the fall of the same year they sent three of their first songs to Popwire, which was a worldwide music website for unsigned artists. "Guiding Light" was the song that received most of the attention. It was one of the candidates for Artist Search by Arcade and NRJ Radio and the song placed second. Unfortunately only the winner proceeded to the next level. However Arcade approached I O N and offered a deal. Unfortunately the record company folded before anything was released.
SASH!
In the summer of 2001 I O N manager Tapani Hirvonen approached one of the singers for Sash!, Inka, in order to collaborate with I O N. Inka and Ralf Koppheimer were more than enthusiastic about the music and are in the process to produce People for a single release.
LONDON- GOTHENBURG
Velho, who resides in London has been busy pursuing his contacts in England and has been able to acquire legal representation for the band by Babbington and Krais, who is one of the biggest music solicitors in the country (their roster includes Texas, Chemical Brothers, etc.). Marco, in turn, has been re-working some of the older songs with the help of Trance[]Control, which is the most downloaded band in the world.
TODAY
In July 2002 ION signed a contract with Simon Austin of Y-Management, who will be managing and representing the band in the future.
